Hello everyone. Earlier this month I was lucky enough to receive a special box in the mail. This box, covered with lovely floral graphics, was one of the ones sent out by Johanna Basford. When a new product is released often the manufacturers will send samples out to the media to generate public interest. Johanna has chosen instead to send her latest books out to people who are involved in the colouring community and I’m super lucky to be on that short list.
The box itself was beautiful: brown cardboard with a very colour-able floral wallpaper like design. I plan to cut a piece from the bottom (which wasn’t squashed as the rest of my poor box was… darn mail carriers) to colour later on. Opening the box brought forth a divine floral scent that i have since learnt was a perfume that Johanna sprayed into the box before closing. A floral Jo Malone fragrance… thanks Avisha. 🙂 Along with the book ‘World of Flowers’ she also enclosed three colour-able cards with envelopes with designs taken from the book, a bar of an amazing scented soap and a 24 tin of my beloved Faber Castell Polychromos pencils! I filmed the opening and you can see the video of it here on my YouTube channel.
Of course i couldn’t wait to start working on one of those lovely pictures. I have to be careful, though, as sitting for long periods increases my pain levels, so I can only colour in 30 minute blocks. I completed the picture you can see at the top of this page which I also posted on Instagram. Due to the response I received from that post i am now in the midst of making a colouring video on another page based on the technique and colour palette I used for the above picture.
The first part of the Tutorial has been filmed and is currently queued for editing. I hope to have it uploaded for you all in the next week or so. If you are interested in following it here is the picture that i will be using below.
And that’s 30 minutes up. I have to go for a short walk now and get on with damp dusting the family room. I have a doctors appointment this afternoon for my daughter but I’m hoping to squeeze in some time to film a little bit more of part 2 of this tutorial. I anticipate it will be three parts long.
Until next time… happy colouring. 🙂
