Video Review: How to Colour Metal.

Hi everyone.  I have a colouring video for you!

Way back in 2016 (I think) I posted a picture of a mech warrior from Kerby Rosanes’ ‘Imagimorphia’ that I had coloured using Derwent Inktense pencils.  Afterwards I received a lot of inquires asking me to make a tutorial to explain how I went about colouring metal.  I filmed a tutorial demonstrating my technique in February this year and it was queued with a bunch of other videos for editing and release.  You’ll hear me referencing the fierce February heat a few times which sounds laughable to me as we’re currently freezing in one of the harshest cold snaps I can remember. lol.  For various real life reasons which I won’t go into the production of both my videos and blog posts was put on hold.  But better late than never!  Finally here it is-> my video tutorial on how I colour metal in colouring books.  I have chosen a simple technique that doesn’t require much in the way of supplies to make this tutorial accessible to everyone.  I hope you enjoy it.

So glad to see you back again Peta and thank you for sharing. I was only thinking about you the other day when I unpacked my colouring books from our shipping boxes – we’ve just moved back to the U.K after 10 years in Australia. I hope life is much easier and less stressful for you now. Get some hot choccy down you. I know how cold it can feel in oz houses in winter – brrrrrrr. Thanks once again for all of your hard work in helping spread your knowledge. I would love to have even 1% of your talent. Take care

    Dear Peta,
It’s so absolutely wonderful that you’re back!!! You have been sorely missed. I don’t think there has been a day since last Sept that I haven’t checked your website for news from you. I don’t know the cause of you pain but I want you to know mine and all your devoted followers prayers are with you and hope you will be pain free and back to your old self soon. I’ve watched other tutorials while you were away because I like to see how others color but always wishing it was one of yours…no one does them better than you. You explain why you are doing something and all of a sudden my brain says, oh, yeah that makes sense, I get it! I’ve completed the “Duck Pond” and just last week finished the Jelly Fish from Lost Ocean both from your tutorials. I sign my name, add the date and the 3rd line gives you the credit by stating, “after Peta Hewitt. I believe July 4th is you birthday, so I want to wish you a wonderful one. I tried seding this email yesterday but something went wrong…hope you get it this time. One last thing, I want very much to do the big fish from Lost Ocean that you did a speed drawing on,is there any chance you can explain what colors you used in what sequence, etc…PLEASE!

Eep! That might be a bit difficult. I can retro-engineer it maybe. I just used the brightest colours of each colour group. I started at the top left hand side of the fish and worked my way across. All the lines were filled with a gold gel pen. I’m afraid I can’t add much more to that. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Oh… a little heads up. Next tutorial will be colouring the grasshopper in Sommarnatt (Summer Nights). The first part will be relevant for anyone, though, as I explain a solution to the dreaded question of ‘What colour do I pick next?’ by demonstrating how to find a suitable palette and how to pre-plan your colour scheme. Hope you find it useful.

Woo-hoo Peta! Thank you for this great video! I ordered the UK version of Mythomorphia which should be landing in my mailbox any day so having a new video from you on any of Kerby’s books is a treat. Between your tutorials with Inktense and the look at your Schminke pans, I’ve fallen down the watercolor rabbithole too 🙂 Your passion for art and ability to share what you know are so inspiring!

Hi Tracey, I’m currently loving my new copy of Mythomorphia. i think it’s his best one yet. I will be doing a review as soon as I get a few pages done… currently working on the Harpy… no surprise there. I have a thing for harpies. lol. Considering which pic would be good for a tutorial. 🙂

You are BACK! Hallelujah! The world is much
duller and devoid of color without you in it.
Hope you are healthy and here to stay for
    a very long time.
