The Parrots from Magical Jungle

My first completed picture from Johanna Basford’s Magical Jungle.  I wanted to go all out with bright splashy colours so I pulled out my Prismacolors to work alongside my Polychromos as Prismacolors are that much more saturated.  I was originally going to colour the border area a flat black or dark green.  Then I got the idea of adding an old stone wall, such as in an ancient abandoned ruin in a South American jungle.  It took a bit more work but I’m happy with the result.  I’m currently working on the first double page spread in this book… pictures to follow soon.

In other news the gallery for the colouring contest is almost complete.  I can’t wait to share with you all of the incredibly beautiful art work that was sent to me.

Also the third and last installment for the Jelly Fish colour along has now been filmed and is being edited.  Next tutorial will be a picture in Magical Jungle.  I hope you will enjoy it.

It’s really lovely. What a great idea for the background wall.

I’m so jealous. I can’t wait for my copy to arrive. I should be here in about 10 days.

Beautiful! I love the stone wall!

    Such lovely colours!
I’m looking forward for the release and looking forward to the next tutorial – both jellyfish- and the Magical jungle tutorial!
I am learning so many things from your tutorials. Sometimes I try to use a colour combination you have shown in other pictures as well. It is difficult but great in a learning process 🙂
Thx for everything you do! —}–@

What a fascinating idea of the brick wall behind the birds. I am learning so many things from watching all of your tutorials and can’t wait to see what you do next.

Thank u so much for all what you and your husband do

    Oh heck,

Love your parrots. Can’t wait to get this book! On another topic, just opened my front door and there was my delivery from The Book Depository of Hanna Karlzon’s Daydreams and Summer Nights, which I had pre-ordered after your review of the paper. The paper is good, the ink looks to be even coverage on the paper, and the binding is sewn and opens really flat. Can’t wait to get out my pencils. I was notified of shipping on the 22nd and today is the 28th, free shipping from the UK to California, so those of you waiting (not so) patiently should get your copies soon! Thanks Peta for all your great art, reviews, videos, tutorials, and most of all, inspiration!

P.S. I have all of Johanna’s other books, and while I color some every day and love them, I haven’t really made much of a dent in them, as I have so many coloring book I’m working in now, so I wasn’t really going to buy this one until I watched your “gushing” review, but now I really want it too. I guess I will have to consider myself a collector (some people collect stamps, I collect books). Thanks again for enabling me in my passion for pretty pictures!

Had too laugh on your (some people collect stamps, I collect books)
I’m right there with you lol. Picked up my Magical Jungle from Dymocks a few days ago. Not like I needed another book but it is so beautiful.

You are definitely the best. 🙂

  9. Lo

    That is simply spectacular.
Words fail me with the beauty of this colouring. You really are simply the best Peta.
My Prismas arrived and even though I noted some dents or small chips in a few none so far are faulty and wow what density of colour but I have to admit I love my Polychromos, Inktense, Luminance and Museum. Caran D’Ache are worth every cent but I only buy a few at a time as the cost is pretty huge,
    Addicted much? Yep.?

yay my copy just arrived! I am bit gutted because the cover that comes with is with the lovely golden embossing has big red blotch/mark in the middle of it which ruins the look of it, I don’t know how it happened but they must of noticed it before posting, naughty amazon!
Anyway cant wait for the tutorial Peta, I have my pencils at the ready lol
PS when will part 3 of the jellyfish be live? cant wait to finish it, it looks great!
Thanks to you and hubby for all the work you put into these videos.
